The students transformed into stars by giving two stunning performances on Wednesday 23rd June 2009. Over 100 children and teachers from the primary school attended the morning performance, together with guests from Frankfurt. As one teacher enthusiastically declared,
“...both my class and I enjoyed 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' today. All the main characters acted well and I don't think any lines were forgotten. My class was really impressed by the Oompa Loompas and their chants.”
The cast then played to a packed audience of friends, families and teachers in the evening with, it has to be said, much greater success than the England football team. Despite two injuries before the curtain opened, the students threw themselves into their roles with conviction and enthusiasm, handling the curtains, props, costumes, lights and music with confidence, too. With all the laughter and cheers, an enjoyable and entertaining evening was had by all. As one member of the audience said full of praise,
“...what a super and entertaining play... all the children were great and we had a great time watching it. Compared to the perfect computer world of today, it was just a treat to see hand-made props and funny improvisations.”
Many thanks go to the whole class for their great efforts and extra time in rehearsals – they did themselves proud. It was certainly a rollercoaster ride, from start to finish, but in the (adapted) words of the Oompa Loompas’:
“And now! By grace! A miracle has taken place!
These kids, who only just before
Were causing stress from shore to shore,
That noisy group, that chit and chat,
Are capable of this and that!
For who could not enjoy the show?
From here and now, it’s up we go!”
