Million-Euro-negotiations in the economics course
Project coordination: Ulrich MussackTo act as an executive director of a bank is made possible by the banking simulation game “SCHUL/BANKER” of the Federal Association of German Banks. Pupils of the advanced economics course of the European School Munich have already participated for the second time in the banking game of the Federal Association of German Banks. Every year several teams take part and have to fight their way through the jungle of balance sheets, liquidation calculation, interest span calculations, etc.
The junior bankers decide on interest rates; on credit and investment business; on launches and if necessary on shutdowns of branches; investments in qualifications of employees; they deal with the fixed interest-bearing; pursue advertising, etc. – as in the real world of banking. Cleverness, team spirit and, most importantly, a knack for dealings with money are sought-after skills at the regular sessions of the executive board of the bank that take place during classes.
The school’s bankers send their decisions to the Federal Association of German Banks, which has offered the banking game for several years, in which about 800 teams participate. The 20 best teams will then qualify for the final round, where the winner is determined.
“SCHUL/BANKER” is a successful possibility to experience economics in real life.
